FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT QUARTZ (ENGINEERED STONE)

What size are Quartz slabs?

Quartz slabs are available in 2cm (3/4″) and 3cm (1 1/4″) thicknesses. Most often, standard size slabs are 119” x 56” and Jumbo or XL slabs are 127″ x 64″.

Do I need 2cm or 3cm?

2cm is most often laminated or mitered at the edges to appear thicker and requires a plywood sub-top to be installed underneath.

3cm is most commonly installed without being laminated to appear thicker. It is installed directly on top of your cabinets without the need for plywood.

Ask your fabricator which one is best for your specific application.

What are the reasons to choose quartz?

Quartz is manufactured for countertops using the most advanced and latest technology. It is a composite of natural quartz, one of the most abundant and hardest minerals on the planet, and pigments that are bound with high quality polymer resins. Quartz is a solid nonporous surface product that is resistant to scratches, stains, and water, making it an extremely easy surface to keep clean and looking great.

Can I cut on it?

Although Quartz is extremely scratch resistant, it is not scratch proof. We do not recommend cutting or chopping directly on your countertop. We recommend to always use a cutting board.

Can I put a hot pot on it?

Though Quartz handles heat far better than other countertop materials, we always recommend using a hot pad or trivet when setting down hot objects such as pans or dishes. Direct contact with extremely high heat can cause damage to your Quartz surface.

Can I use it on floors or walls?

Yes! Quartz can be used in a variety of residential and commercial applications for both floors and walls. Suitable for many types of indoor flooring applications, Quartz is also an excellent choice for a wide variety of indoor wall applications including backsplashes, tub surrounds, shower walls, and other interior wall surfaces. We can even machine many Quartz products to allow slope for water drainage so it can be used for custom sinks and shower pans.

How should I clean my Quartz countertops?

Routine daily cleaning can be done with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. For heavier cleaning, there are many countertops specific products to choose from online and in stores. We recommend a gentle cleaner free from ammonia or citrus additives.

Does it stain?

Quartz is resistant to staining, however it is not stain-proof. Minimal maintenance and routine cleaning will keep your counters looking new. Take care to avoid spilling harsh chemicals such as drain cleaners, paint strippers, oven cleaners, or other high Ph chemicals on your Quartz surfaces. These chemicals may etch or dull the finish.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes. There are some UV stable Quartz products designed specifically for outdoor use. These are available in limited colors. Using Quartz not rated for outdoor applications will result in color changes, fading and/or warping.

What kind of sink can I use with Quartz?

Quartz is compatible with any sink of your choice. We have a variety of sinks that we offer.

Does Quartz come with a warranty?

Quartz manufacturers offer warranties ranging from ten years to lifetime. Ask your fabricator about the warranty on your specific product choice.

Will I see any seams in my countertops?

Although seam appearance is minimal, they will always be visible. It is advised to discuss seam placement and appearance with your fabricator/installer at template time.

Does the color/pattern go all the way through the slab?

Yes, Quartz has a solid pattern all the way through the slab. The same beauty and color you see on the surface continues all the way through allowing for a wide variety of edge profiles without a change in material appearance.
